Jonathan has more than 25 years’ experience in sophisticated case design and implementation for affluent families, helping US and international families achieve their unique asset protection, estate and business planning objectives. He consistently helps families protect their wealth while saving hundreds of thousands of dollars or more in taxes.
Jonathan is an Adjunct Faculty at Chapman University Fowler School of Law, where he teaches Estate Planning to law school and graduate tax students. He is also the Chair of the Orange County Chapter of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), an international organization of professionals who practice in the areas of trusts and estates and international law.
A frequent national speaker to attorneys, CPAs, and insurance and financial professionals, Jonathan has authored or co-authored numerous articles including those published in top industry publications Estate Planning Journal, the AICPA’s The Tax Adviser, and The Journal of Financial Service Professionals. Jonathan also co-authored the book Wisdom for the Wealthy: Solving the High Net Worth Planning Puzzle (Crescendo Publishing 2015), and he is admitted to the California Bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit, and the U.S. District Court, Central District of California. A Southern California native, Jonathan graduated from UCLA and Loyola Law School with honors. Jonathan also received a Certificate in International Human Rights and Comparative Civil Rights from the University of San Diego School of Law after studying at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. He is a member of the California Bar Association’s Sections on International Law and Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law; WealthCounsel; The Advisors Forum; a former Senior Fellow of The Estate and Wealth Strategies Institute at Michigan State University; and a former Faculty of The Academy of Multidisciplinary Practice, Inc.
Prior to joining MVM Law as a Partner in 2013, Jonathan served as Chief Operating Officer at WealthCounsel, LLC, overseeing the operations of the nation’s premier estate and business planning attorney membership support organization, helping thousands of attorneys throughout the United States. Because of his passion for helping professionals collaborate, Jonathan was also instrumental in the creation of The Advisors Forum, a national interdisciplinary membership organization that helps all disciplines of wealth planning professionals work together more productively for the benefit of their clients. Jonathan also served as Managing Board Member for ElderCounsel, LLC, an attorney support organization that provides tools and training for member firms nationwide focusing in elder law and special needs planning.
When not helping clients and other professionals, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, and he is an avid cyclist (he’s ridden the infamous Tour de France mountains of Alpe d’ Huez, Col du Tourmalet, Col du Galibier and Mt. Ventoux, as well as Mt. Evans, CO and Haleakala, HI, among others).
